From Preschool to College

I think that little girl on the left always knew she would grow up to be a teacher

Meet Ms. Luc

Learning is a movement. Children, parents, and teachers work together to contemplate ideas, create learning experiences, and celebrate new understandings. In my classroom, children have the opportunity to become active participants in the learning process.

Each day, I find myself learning more about who I am. Today, I would like to invite you in to my journey, and together we will contemplate, create, and celebrate my identity as teacher.

"Creativity seems to emerge from multiple experiences, coupled with a well-supported development of personal resources, including a sense of freedom to venture beyond the known."

The Inspiration to Venture Beyond the Known

Born and raised in Illinois, I grew up in a northern Chicago suburb named Northbrook. With four brothers, a sister, my two parents, and a turtle, there were never any dull moments growing up. I have always been close to my brothers and sister, and so, I'd like to thank them for inspiring me to pursue a career in education. Together, my siblings and I always creating learning experiences through outdoor play in nature, athletic play, and engineering-based play with building materials. Together, we would find the courage to venture beyond the known and discover life together. It was these experiences from which I found my sense of creativity. I loved guiding my siblings in their lives as they followed me through mine. I'll never forget the day when I gave my brother, Casey, a tour through our junior high school. He was so nervous, and he told me that me being there with him and showing him around gave him the courage he needed to walk through the school doors his first day of sixth grade. Another moment I like to think back to is when my sister had a birthday party, and I performed a tap dance for her and her friends. She was so excited that I was there for her that she returned to tap dance classes the next week. My life is a portrait made of these experiences from my childhood, and I am so happy that I grew up in an atmosphere that encouraged me to become the person I am today.

I now live in Indianapolis, Indiana. I am so proud and excited to call Indiana my new home, as I spent my senior year of college co-writing a children's chapter book about Indiana state history called The Gifts of Indiana: A Tale of Three Birthdays and One Grand Adventure. I will receive my Bachelor of Science degree from Butler University in Spring 2015 in Elementary Education, and with minors in Mild Intervention and Peace and Conflict Studies. I will soon be licensed to teach in the state of Indiana with a Generalist Elementary Education license.
